Martyr Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero was part of the liberation theology movement in Catholicism who was assassinated in 1980 during the civil war while saying mass, the cause for canonization was opened in 1997 and Pope John Paul II bestowed upon Oscar Romero the title of ?Servant of God?. He is one step away from becoming the first Salvadoran Saint and the second in Central America.
