More than 2,000 demonstrators came to protest the impact of coal on the climate, the protest took place in a mine near Bonn on the eve of the opening of the 23rd UN Climate Change Conference. The lignite mine, located about 50 km west of Bonn in North Rhine-Westphalia, belongs to the German group RWE. After a long walk through a no-man's-land, the protesters, dressed in a white suit, positioned themselves at the edge and then inside the gigantic crater formed by Hambach's open-cast lignite mine. In front of the police officers, posted around an excavator more than 200 m long ("the largest in the world" underlines the mine site).
