from presidential residence to public place
Los Pinos, the former presidential residence in Mexico City, has been transformed into a cultural centre by the new president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO). AMLO decided to continue living in his own house because he finds Los Pinos too expensive and too pompous as an official residence. The grounds, gardens and houses were opened to the public on December 1, 2018, the day he was sworn in and succeeded President Enrique Pena Nieto. The first public event was organised on 13 December. 3500 people attended the film 'Roma' by Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron, which was screened in one of the gardens.
