Galicia's wine making heritage goes back over a thousand years. On some of the most steeply terraced hillside vineyards in the world grow many grape varieties unknown outside this province, like Loureira, Caino blanca, Treixadura and Godello.
In these vineyards in the Ribeiro sub region, one finds Albarino, Brancellao, Ferron, Caina tinta and other unique grapes, often farmed organically, and virtually all tended and harvested by hand, as the steep terraces make the use of mechanized equipment like tractors impossible.
