LIBYA, TRIPOLI, 27 AUGUST 2011
An operator takes a nap on a couch at the Head Office of the Great Man Made River-project, in the area of Qasar Ben Gashaier, outside of Tripoli. Tripoli depends in a huge way on water from the river. The present water shortage in the city is likely caused by Qaddafi's mercenaries, who made their retreat following the river, thus forcing the technicians at several plants on the way to make a run for their lifes. According to the operators, the problems can be overcome as soon as technicians are send to the plants in the dessert once more to restart the system manually.
However, there's also talk of a poissoning of the remote bassins of the Great Man Made River by Qaddafi troops.
