A Syrian boy climbes out of the window at the refugee centre which was attacked by firework with an explosion on the 1st of February. Windows were crashed, nobody was hurt.
There has been a dramatic increase in attacks against refugees and migrants in Austria in 2016. The attacks vary from shooting with an air rifle to setting fire, throwing firework and projectiles at asylum accommodation centers and fixing a pig head at the door of a mosque. The offenders are sought in extreme right-wing circles but rarely caught and trialed. In contrast to Germany this is not common in Austria. This trend takes place in the light of rising populism in Europe.
